Saturday April 4th I ran my first 5K! I ran with Trisha, my brothers girlfriend and my good friend. About a month ago we decided we wanted to run one and we found out about this one and signed up. We trained together to get ready, going running around my neighborhood until we got up to 3 miles. It was very cold and snowing a little bit, but it was so much fun! The race started at the Provo Tabernacle, went down University Ave, around the mall, looped around to Freedom Blvd and back down Center St to the Tabernacle. This was the first time I have ever ran a 5K so I was happy about my time, 36 mins. What I am most proud of is that I did the whole run without walking. We are going to do more throughout the summer and I want to try to beat my time. I am really glad I did it, it was so much fun and I felt a great sense of accomplishment! Yay Trish! Can’t wait for the next one!

Woke this morning to the news of the earthquake in L’Aquila, Italy. I’m having a hard time fighting back tears as I think of one of my favorite cities crumbling around its brave residents. I spent 6 months as the President of the L’Aquila branch in 1994 and I love those wonderful people and the ancient city they are so fiercely proud of. A tutti gli aquilini: che Dio sia con voi.

Savanna has become really involved with the motorcycle project. Almost everyday a box comes to the house containing some part and she gets very excited. It’s something for the motorcycle! I can’t wait for dad to get home and we will open it! When James gets home they open it together and James explains what it is and what is does. It has really been a learning experience for her! This particular night she was out in the garage helping. She was wearing her pink sparkly shoes, which made it even more special! She helped measure the bike and basically fiddled with everything. James gave her the broom and asked her to sweep up to keep her occupied and away from the important stuff. James said he checked on her and noticed that her finger was bleeding. He asked her if she cut herself and she shrugged her shoulders and said no. He pointed out the blood and took her inside to clean up. The next morning she said, “I was helping daddy in the garage and I didn’t know I cut myself but I looked down and my finger was certainly bleeding.” She is certainly James’ girl.

Translation: Lillain had a car accident and her daughter died but she (Lillain) hurt her foot. She had her seat belt on and it took 100 days to heal. A truck hit the car on accident. I hope LIllian will feel better soon becasue of the accident.

Context: Sam has adopted Lillian as his PA Grandma. They have become good friends. They met when I was making meal arrangements for her while she was recovering from a lingering foot injury caused by the car accident last summer. We saw Lillian today so I think that’s why this is on his mind. She is actually doing really well and seems to be completely recovered from her foot injury.
